Waldemar Swierzy graduated from the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts in the early 1950s. His early work was created to advertise and promote cultural and public events, including film, theatre, circuses and music performances in Poland. Swierzy’s innovative – and often controversial – work captured the art world’s attention and cast him at the center of an exciting, evolving movement in graphic art during the latter part of the 20th century. Swierzy lives and works in Warsaw, Poland, and has won many awards for his work, including gold medals in the Polish Poster Biennale; several 1st prizes from the Hollywood Reporter for movie poster designs; and gold and bronze medals at 1985’s “Jazzpo,” the International Jazz Salon in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Swierzy’s lifelong love of music led to his celebrated portraits of American jazz legends, and his fascination with the notorious figure of the Chicago gangster led to his creation of the Mobster collection. High Stakes Art, a division of S2 Art Group, was launched in July 2005 at the World Series of Poker Tour in Las Vegas. As part of the High Stakes Art collection, Swierzy’s recent paintings and lithographs – with titles including “Poker Face” and “The Strip” – capture another favorite theme for Swierzy – the world of high-pitched backroom poker matches, and the energy and excitement of Las Vegas.
